40 Days For Life - One Successful Organization

By admin | March 9, 2010

Submitted by Stand for Life Blog

The spring campaign of 40 Days For Life is well underway in 167 cities in the United States and abroad.  So far at the halfway point there have been 209 babies saved that can be documented. One could state that 40 Days For Life is one of the most successful entities in any field today. What makes this organization so successful?  I believe it’s for numerous reasons:

It is a perfect vehicle for Christians who otherwise do not engage in few, if any, pro-life activities. The focus on prayer is something that’s very familiar to them, plus they are able to be a part of saving babies without being confrontational.

40 Days For Life is only for less than three months out of the year and volunteering is often divided into hour increments. Consequently, people do not feel overwhelmed and possibly burned out by volunteering all year.

Many churches are involved which gives credibility to the organization. Parishioners are more likely to be involved with the pro-life movement if they know they’re not going at it alone. It also is easier to garner donations when you’re partnering with organizations as strong as most churches are.

40 Days is successful because they focus on one mission: saving babies through prayer, fasting, and community outreach.  Companies and other organizations often fail when they lose their focus and expand into areas that drift too far from their original mission.

The results since only 2007:

Over 300,000 have volunteered to stop abortion.  More than 9,500 church congregations have participated in the 40 Days for Life campaigns.

Reports document 2,168 lives that have been saved from abortion — and those are just the ones they know about.  As in any pro-life activity nobody has any way of knowing how many people are affected.

Twenty-seven abortion workers have quit their jobs and walked away from the abortion industry, and five abortion facilities completely shut down following local 40 Days for Life campaigns.

Many people with past abortion experiences have stepped forward to begin post-abortion healing and recovery.

More than 650 news stories have been featured in newspapers, magazines, radio shows and TV programs from coast to coast and overseas.

I don’t have any connection with 40 Days for Life, but just looking at what their mission is, how they are organized, and the successful results, they are to be commended.

Senate Candiate Forum Recap

By admin | March 5, 2010

Submitted by Abortion in Washington Blog

On February 12th, five of the candidates running against Patty Murray were introduced before a pro-life audience at a forum co-sponsored by Life of the Party and Abortion in Washington. There were eight known candidates actively campaigning at the time of the forum, all of whom were invited to participate. The five in attendance were:

Paul Akers, Dr. Art Coday, Clint Didier (represented by campaign manager Chuck Beck), Rodney Rieger, and Craig Williams. The purpose of the forum was two-fold: to find out the true convictions of each candidate and to show them that the electorate does care about their position on abortion.

“It Gets Complicated”: Late term abortionist shares tips on killing, avoiding resuscitation requirements

By admin | March 5, 2010

Submitted by Abortion in Washington Blog

Abortionist Deb Oyer, probably the most visible, politically active, and well connected abortionist in the state of Washington, recently gave a presentation at the University of Washington to prospesctive abortionists and teenage girls from local high schools.

Terra Mork, a bright light in the state’s pro-life movement, leads off with part one of Oyer’s presentation.

Oyer is a late-term abortionist who appears to be enthusiastic about her work. In a matter of fact presentation staged peacefully without fanfare on the campus of the UW, Dr. Oyer details how she perfoms abortions and ensures that the child is killed in the womb in order to prevent having to “resuscitate” a born-alive child during a failed abortion.

That Common Argument - “Pro-Lifers Don’t Care For The Baby After It’s Born”

By admin | February 8, 2010

Submitted by Stand for Life Blog

What is one statement abortion proponents often resort to when they really can’t defend the killing of the innocent unborn:  The pro-lifers only care for what’s in the womb.  They don’t care for the baby and mother after it’s born.  Obviously, this is just a distraction to attempt to nullify the pro-life argument, but it can easily be refuted.

First, let’s examine their assertion that pro-lifers don’t do anything to help the mother and newborn.  Hundreds of pregnancy centers throughout America assist the woman while she is pregnant, but also after the baby is born.  Most conduct parenting classes along with helping with specific needs for the newborn baby and mother.  Many Catholic parishes are involved with groups such as The Gabriel Project which helps with the woman through her pregnancy until well after the baby is born.  Then there are the thousands of pro-lifers who assist individually with women who decided not to abort their child.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume they are right, that pro-lifers do not help with the mother and baby after it is born.  How would that change the fact that an unborn baby is being killed in the name of abortion?  It doesn’t change that fact at all.  If you see your neighbor being physically abused by her husband and you do nothing about it, does that change the fact that the abuse occurred?  What if someone said that you can’t assert that the abuse is wrong unless you take the neighbor into your house to protect her.  Of course, helping out this woman would be a great thing to do, but whether you do or not doesn’t detract from the facts of the original abuse.

In a related argument abortion proponents will say that if a woman lives in poverty or other dire circumstances then they should be allowed to abort their child.  They often claim that the pro-lifer ignores the circumstances of the woman’s life.  Obviously, many women come from undesirable situations, but do we allow to kill the born children who are in those same circumstances?  Of course, not.  Their rebuttal to that argument is often that it’s different because one child is born and the other isn’t.  So right there is the crux of the whole pro-life, pro-abortion debate.  They do not feel the unborn is as valuable as a child outside of the womb and that it is not deserving of equal rights that born persons enjoy.  The pro-life argument can then be focused on when does life begin and that the unborn is just in a different location than the born child.

These criticisms of the pro-life view are designed for the sole purpose of distracting from the fact of what really happens in an abortion.  No matter how many times the discussion is thrown off course, the focus should be on reiterating the truth that the unborn is a human deserving of all of the rights that a born human has.

Excellent New Online Book: 101 Reasons Not To Have An Abortion

By admin | February 7, 2010

Submitted by Abortion in Washington Blog

On occasion, a new pro-life book is published that offers explanations on how to defend the pro-life position, but few are as comprehensive as the awesome new book by Serena Gaefke called 101 Reasons Not to Have an Abortion: A Girl’s Guide To Informed Choices. This easy-to-read book explains in detail the 101 reasons,  plus testimonials, words of encouragement from the author, and much more.  The title states that it’s A Girl’s Guide to Informed Choices, but actually it can be a guide for anyone whether they are pro-choice or pro-life. It gives the pro-choicer a plethora of information about why abortion is definitely the wrong choice. But it also supplies the pro-lifer with 101 ways to defend their position. This book took over four years to complete and is available online for, believe it or not, free.

The book opens with testimonials such as the following:

If I had the right counseling and someone to talk to me, to let me know the risks involved, the mental torture, the emotional scares that I have endured all these years, I would have walked out of that building that day without one look back, but I didn’t.
—Rhonda

I didn’t fully feel the impact of my decision to abort until January 1980 when, after four years of marriage, I had my son Justin. As I nuzzled him close to my chest and fed him, it hit me. What had I done?
—Wendy

Then there is the following:

An open letter to all women who have had abortions

If you are someone who has had an abortion then I extend my heart to you. I want you to know that as strongly as I feel about this topic I hold absolutely nothing less than love for you. You are not a bad person and you do not deserve anything less than forgiveness, love and joy…

Each reason to not have an abortion is then explained in detail.

A few of the 101 reasons not to have an abortion are:

Reason #2: We know when life begins
Reason #3: You have been lied to
Reason #10: Your baby exists now, not in the future
Reason #11: A fetus is a human and humans are persons
Reason #20: There is a plan
Reason #21: To fulfill her plan your child needs to be born
Reason #36: ‘Freedom to choose’ does not tell you what you have the freedom to choose
Reason #76: Slavery was legal too
Reason #80: Abortion is a betrayal of women
Reason #81: Abortion after rape is a double tragedy
Reason #82: There are so many couples who would love to parent if you don’t
Reason #100: You can still live your dreams

In her own words Serena Gaefke discusses her path in writing this book:

About The Author
Serena Gaefke conceived this book as an Australian 24-year-old newlywed and Green Card holder to the United States. At the time the outcome was unknown. Where would the money come from? How could she do it? What would others think of her? Still, she opened herself to the possible and her project grew and grew. Four years later after extensive personal research and much bonding with her personal computer, her project was ready to be born. At times it seemed too overwhelming or even that it was overdue – but she didn’t abort. And now, she is so glad she didn’t. It brings her much joy to announce to the world, her firstborn baby, 101 Reasons Not to Have an Abortion.

Catholic Seattle U Publishes Pro-abortion Opinion Piece; Decries Tim Tebow Superbowl Ad

By admin | February 7, 2010

Submitted by Abortion in Washington Blog

Seattle University does it again.

In an Opinion piece published Wednesday, writer Miss Taylor Olson, sports and opinion editor for the Spectator, decries the “anti-choice” Tebow ad and encourages readers to contact Emily’s List and other “progressive” organizations to sign petitions against the ad.

Seems as though the armies of feminism have successfully gagged Miss Olsen and strapped electrodes to her forehead. Sally Jenkins, pro-choice sports writer for the Washington Post, evaded the brain washing with her own editorial that has a lot to teach aspiring feminists and sports writers like Miss Olsen.

On its web site Seattle University claims to be a “Catholic university.”

Sadly this isn’t the first time Seattle U has produced pro-abortion garbage for consumption.

First there was the “thoughtful conversion” about “faith and reproductive justice” with a panel of pro-abortion speakers, including the chaplain for the local chapter of Planned Parenthood.

Then there was the so-called respectful dialogue on morality and health care reform;  A dialogue that the organizers denied was meant to include the primary moral issue of the day: abortion.

God help Seattle U.

What Is They Best Pro-Life Approach For The Youth?

By admin | February 1, 2010

Submitted by Stand for Life Blog

While attending the 2010 March For Life in Washington, DC, I was struck by the thousands of young people who were there to give support for the pro-life cause.  So many youth groups and individuals had a passion and exuberance that I have rarely seen for any cause.

Many of their predecessors in the movement have bickered over what is the correct approach, what group is doing it right, or what pro-life leader should be followed.  It’s amazing the level of disgust I have seen from some pro-lifers against other pro-lifers because they felt one group didn’t spend enough time stopping abortion or were using the wrong method.

Many high school and college students realize that one-third of their generation has been killed in the name of abortion, and they want to do something about it.  In a recent poll 58% of those 18-29 say that abortion is morally wrong. What should be their plan of attack?   Should they want a movement based on the attempt to change the laws or one that shows graphic pictures to shock the public?  Should they attempt to convert many churches from non-action to an active role in stopping abortion?  Should they focus on the biblical view of defending the unborn and prayerful vigils such as 40 Days For Life?  Should they want to only pass out literature about the preborn or have fetal model displays?  Should they have a concerted effort to just talk to their peers one-on-one to spread the message?

When one sees the commitment they have at rallies and marches it begs the question of what do they do to defend the cause for the rest of the year.  Possibly the youth will follow in the footsteps of the past generation and focus on the best approach for them on an individual basis.  What is the most effective way for the youth to spread the pro-life message?  I would like to read your opinion in the “comments” on what is the best approach that they should use.  If you have one that I haven’t mentioned that would be great.  Thanks.

If you are a Washington voter for whom the Right to Life is paramount, come and help decide who Patty Murray’s challenger should be!

Five candidates are actively campaigning for the Republican nomination: Art Coday, Clint Didier, Sean Salazar, Chris Widener, and Craig Williams. Each of them have been invited and will be asked, before a pro-life audience, the tough questions about how they will advocate restoring the unalienable Right to Life.

Washington State has been under the thumb of pro-abortion-choice senators (from both sides of the aisle) for nearly 40 years. Will 2010 be the year that changes? Only if serious pro-lifers get active in the process of determining the Republican nominee!

Come and see for yourself! Determine which of these candidates you can enthusiastically support if any. Get informed and then attend your Republican Precinct Caucus the next morning, Saturday, February 13 at 10 AM (See your county Republican Party website for details). The precinct caucuses are the beginning of the convention process. Republicans come together and elect delegates to the county convention, at which, they elect delegates to the state convention. At the state convention in June, the elected delegates will have the power to nominate the Republican challenger to Patty Murray.

Update on Anti-Crisis Pregnancy Bills SB 6452 and HB 2837 in Washington State

By admin | January 31, 2010

Submitted by Abortion in Washington Blog

Yesterday in Olympia the Senate committee on Health and Long-Term care held a hearing on SB 6452 which seeks to regulate crisis pregnancy centers in a variety of unnecessary and unconstitutional ways.

The bill, promoted by Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Rights Advocacy League (NARAL), would place a series of regulations on crisis pregnancy centers that would not apply to centers that offer abortion. For those of you following along at home, yes, that is probably unconstitutional.

Abortion Is 1/3 Of All Deaths - What Can We Do About It?

By admin | January 19, 2010

Submitted by Stand for Life Blog

The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) report the following causes of death in the United States for the year 2006:

Number of deaths: 2,426,264

Death rate: 810.4 deaths per 100,000 population

Life expectancy: 77.7years

Infant Mortality rate: 6.69 deaths per 1,000 live births

Number Of Deaths For Leading Causes Of Death:

Heart disease: 631,636

Cancer: 559,888

Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 137,119

Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 124,583

Accidents (unintentional injuries): 121,599

Diabetes: 72,449

Alzheimer’s disease: 72,432

Influenza and Pneumonia: 56,326

Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 45,344

Septicemia: 34,234

Source: Deaths: Final Data for 2006, tables B, D, 7, 30

One statistic is missing.  How many deaths by abortion were there in 2006? The total is over 1,206,200 unborn humans dying.  Consequently, if that 1.2 million is added to the 2.4 million deaths that the CDC reports, then abortion is the cause of death for 1/3 of all deaths in 2006.

In the year 2002 there were slightly over 2.4 million deaths reported, but without the 1,293,000 abortions included in that statistic that year. The ratio is even more than 1/3 of all deaths caused by abortion.  Since 1973 approximately 50 million unborn humans have died that are excluded from government death statistics.

What Can We Do About It?

To start there are many activities this week marking the 37th anniversary of Roe v Wade.  Most states will have events, but there are two major national marches and events in Washington DC and San Francisco.  If you can’t make it to those there’s a great new opportunity called the Virtual March For Life where thousands have already signed up.  Let’s remember the unborn every day of the year.  The following videos explain more about the events.

Liberals And The Non-Defense Of The Unborn

By admin | January 18, 2010

Submitted by Stand for Life Blog

What have liberals defended since Roe v Wade 37 years ago?

Liberals have been the champions of human rights, especially for terrorists, prisoners, and minorities, including illegal aliens. They decry anything that is remotely related to the torture of terrorists.  Have they ever realized that abortion is the worst form of torture there is?  Some unborn babies have their limbs pulled off, are burned in an abortion, or are sucked through a tube.  Death is almost always the result of this torture.
